The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of February 2nd

After we had a week with two clear contenders for the top spot, this one is a bit less spicy. Still, a good, interesting slate of books is on the way, so let’s look at my buys, recommendations and curiosities from the week of comics, led by a top notch team working with a new character.

Book of the Week: Monkey Prince #1

This is a Gene Luen Yang bet. It’s also a bet that the people who have touted this already are correct. But mostly it’s a bet that Yang will continue to be good at comics, which, frankly, is one of the safest best we have in the medium. The guy’s a genius. Pair that with a character he co-created, a solid artist in Bernard Chang, and a finite series with what’s assuredly a tight story to fit within it, and, baby, we got a stew going.

I’ll be very interested to see if I’m right, but I suppose I’ll find out soon. Like…today. Let’s do it.
