The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of September 4th
It’s a massive week of releases, with plenty of entries in each category. But this loaded slate is led by a couple favorites, so let’s look at those and more in this week’s edition of The Pull.
Comic of the Week: Public Domain #8
There are two things I can say about Public Domain that are, in my opinion, obviously and almost irrefutably true. One is that when it’s coming out, it’s the best single issue series. That might seem surprising, but if you’re reading it, you get it. This is Chip Zdarsky at the peak of his powers doing exactly his thing to the absolute max. The other is that there’s literally nothing else like it on the stands. This series about making comics, creators rights, family, relationships, and life in general is a slice of life story firmly set at the center of the Venn diagram between creativity and business. It’s a singular book crafted by a singular creator doing his thing as well as anyone is.
Anyways, it’s my opinion that you should read it. It’s pretty good.
Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Void Rivals Vol. 2
I wrote about this series at length in the most recent edition of Comics Disassembled, so I’ll give you an abbreviated version of what I said there here. Void Rivals leveled up with this arc, going from a good series to a maybe great one here. It’s now at least the second best book in the Energon Universe, and it’s Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo de Felici doing tremendous things together. If you’re sticking to the Transformers/G.I. Joe sides of Energon, you’re missing out. Void Rivals is a good one.
