The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of April 23rd

I must regrettably inform everyone that I simply do not know when comics are actually coming out at this point. So, this week’s edition of The Pull, and all future editions, will be a hopeful guide to what I think is coming out that week, but will not know until I actually arrive in the comic shop. So, please keep that in mind!

Comic of the Week: Universal Monsters: The Mummy #2

I was on vacation when the first issue of this hit, so it ensured I couldn’t do things: One was hyping it up as my Comic of the Week, and the other was talking about how good it was. Faith Erin Hicks is one of my favorite cartoonists and getting to see her take her talents to the horror genre was something I was eager to see, and its first issue showed reality surpassed my hopes in this regard. Her gifts at pacing and character acting work perfectly in this genre, and she’s made a Mummy story that’s entirely her own here. Pair that with Lee Loughridge colors on her work and we have something special cooking here.

Speaking of: I’m very impressed by the Universal Monsters titles Skybound has done! Each has had inspired casting and even better execution. Big fan!

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Paranoid Gardens TP

I have no idea if this comic will be good. I honestly heard nothing about it after it was released. I have no idea if it will even make sense, as sometimes Gerard Way comics do not. But at the very least it will be unique, and at the very least it will look good, as all comics drawn by Chris Weston and colored by Dave Stewart do. That’s enough to drive me to read this, although it may end up being something I read on Hoopla ultimately.
