The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of October 8th
It’s a big week with a massive debut, so of course this edition of The Pull begins with an ending. So, let’s get to it, as I highlight my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, including a conclusion that’s been long in the works.

Comic of the Week: Farmhand #26
Rob Guillory’s Farmhand — the writer/artist’s follow-up to Chew, the Image series he did with writer John Layman — has been on a long road to its conclusion. Beginning in July 2018, the cartoonist took us into a story about a farmer, his rare crop, his family, and the chaos the intersection of those three things brought to the world and the people in their lives. It’s been building since then, and as I suspected, much of its big plot machinations came to a close with its 25th issue (or so I think). This issue is its ending, and I believe it will end up being about the fallout, and the relationships of the cast members that have been built throughout its run. That strikes me as the right way to do it, and a proper sendoff for a series that was always more about its cast than its rather insane (but effective) plot. I’m sad to see it go, but happy to see it end, as odd as that may sound. It’s been a good one.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Bug Wars Book One
I’ve heard nothing but good things about Jason Aaron and Mahmud Asrar’s fantasy answer to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!, as folks I trust have spoken highly of what this creative team — which also includes a top of the game colorist and letterer in Matthew Wilson and Becca Carey — has done throughout Bug Wars’ first story. So, I’m interested in finally getting onboard and seeing what all the fuss is about. That said, a quick note. I like that they call this “Book One” instead of “Volume One.” There’s something stately and quintessentially fantasy about that choice. It’s a good move by all involved.
