The Moment with Brian Michael Bendis
Welcome to another edition of The Moment, an interview series on SKTCHD with a simple premise: Creators join me to talk about The Moment they knew four of their biggest projects were going to work, whether that’s creatively, commercially, or some mix of both.
This month’s episode is a great one, as writer Brian Michael Bendis joins to discuss the moments he knew four comics from his career — each of which I picked — were going to work, and so much more beyond that. Those comics were:
- Powers, with Michael Avon Oeming
- Ultimate Spider-Man, with Mark Bagley, Stuart Immonen, David Lafuente, Sara Pichelli, and more
- Alias, with Michael Gaydos, Matt Hollingsworth, and Richard Starkings
- His larger Avengers run, with David Finch, Leinil Francis Yu, Olivier Coipel, Tom Brevoort, and more
Bendis walks viewers through those moments he knew each of those projects would work, and digs into the story behind each project as well. It was a lovely chat, with great and deep perspective from Bendis as he talks about these special and enormously consequential comics.
You can watch it here or on YouTube. Oh, and while you’re at it, make sure to subscribe to the SKTCHD YouTube channel, which will be getting Shorts posted from this episode throughout the week and more in the future. The goal for this is still to be a monthly series — the holidays got in the way! — and the good news is my guest for the next episode is already booked, so stay tuned for more of The Moment!
Want to start reading Bendis’ comics that we talk about here? Make sure to check your local comic shop first, but if you can’t find them, here are some places where you can get started on these excellent comics.
Some folks out there prefer interviews in text form rather than video. I totally get it. I’m one of those people! So, as promised, each episode of The Moment (and each episode of any video-first material) will come with a text version of this interview that’s been edited for clarity and is only available for subscribers. This one’s a fun one, as I actually tightened up the video version to the point I cut a few fun segments in pursuit of a slightly shorter length. So, for those who read the chat, you’ll get some excellent bonuses. I hope you dig it!
