Now Accepting Questions for the September Mailbag Q&A!

It’s Mailbag time! What does that mean? SKTCHD has a monthly Mailbag Q&A, in which subscribers can ask any questions they may have about the broader worlds of comics, the industry, podcasting and writing, but also really any subject, as sports, food, movies/TV, travel, life and varying other subjects come up pretty regularly. It’s basically an opportunity to have any question you might have answered on the site, and even if it’s something I don’t immediately have an answer to, I’ll do my best to find one. Plus, it’s a chance to have a little fun and engage within the community, as I’m sure there’s plenty more we all have in common beyond the world of comics.

No question is too weird, and I’ll do my best to answer each and every one of them. And it’s easy to submit your question or questions: just add them to the comments for this very post or email me them directly at david@SKTCHD.com. Get them to me by Saturday the 7th and I will get them in the mix!

Which four individuals belong on the Comic Book Mount Rushmore? (They don’t have to be Americans.)

Are there any creators whose work you absolutely collect and have to own, regardless of the quality of the individual work? Are there any creators whose work you collect purely because their name is on the comic?

Who are the ten best journalists/reporters in comic book fiction? (Who are the top ten comic book characters who are journalists/reporters - not real life people who report on the comics industry.) You can use whatever criteria you want to determine this list, but my only request is to include the characters’ in-story journalistic accomplishments as one of the criteria.

And one more random question: Would you rather time travel to the past or to the future?

Is it just me, or have a fairly noticeable number of comic stores “pivoted to video,” so to speak, in the last few months? Seems like there are quite a few Facebook livestream sales and whatnot, as well as videos hyping up new releases each week. From a social media marketing perspective, do you think this is a good move for stores to increase business, drum up interest, and increase visibility, or is it just catering to the customer base they already have?

Play Monday Morning Quarterback on Marvel Comics #1000. I don’t know if you even read it, but that doesn’t matter for this exercise. Imagine you’re in charge of this project - some sort of mega sized jam/anthology issue meant to celebrate all 80 years of Marvel.

What approach do you take?

And if your approach is more or less the same as theirs, call out some specific creators working on characters/historical moments that you would’ve liked to see.
