The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of April 9th

It’s a smaller week for me as a reader, but boy oh boy, it has an extremely high upside. All killer, no filler is the theme of the week, so let’s get straight to it in another edition of The Pull.

Comic of the Week: The Great British Bump-Off: Kill or Be Quilt #1

John Allison alone but also John Allison with Max Sarin is one of the easiest buys in comics. The cartoonist/writer and artist he often works with dating back to Giant Days are amongst the very best at what they do, and this sequel to The Great British Bump-Off is certain to be an absolute blast filled with some of the funniest beats and sharpest character work you’ll find in comics this year, let alone this week. This duo is one of the very best out there, and they’ve found another electric muse in Bad Machinery’s Shauna Mickle.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Paul Auster’s The New York Trilogy: City of Glass, Ghosts, The Locked Room

Mazz is my all-time favorite comic artist — I’d explain why, but if you’ve seen it, you know — so finally reading the artist’s adaptation of Auster’s City of Glass is something I just have to do. I have zero expectations, as it’s strangely a comic I’ve never heard a lot about even though it’s been out since 1994. But it’s Mazzucchelli. It’s going to be elite, because he can’t do anything else.
