The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of August 14th
It’s time for Team Starlord to return! What a good team they are!
Let’s look at that comic I’m talking about and my other buys, recommendations and curiosities in this week’s edition of The Pull.
Book(s) of the Week: The White Trees #1
I am all about this title for two main reasons. The first is the creative team, naturally. Chip Zdarsky, Kris Anka and Matt Wilson did serious work together on a Starlord mini-series a little while back, and when you partner them up with Aditya Bidikar, they somehow get even better. That’s a heck of start.
The other is the whole format and setup of the series. It’s a two issue series that’s about 60 pages in total, so it’s slightly oversized and designed to tell one story, which may or may not be collected in trade eventually. I’m unsure if it’s oversized in width/height or squarebound or anything like that, but I am sure hoping for it because I feel like that would be the next level for this. It’s a great idea for a structure, and I enjoy this short burst effort from a top team. Most of all, I appreciate that they’re trying something different here, because that’s far more interesting to me.
This is supposed to be a complete story, but I also like the idea I have in my head that this could be a scalable fantasy story. The title and its mentioning of it being “A Blacksand Tale” makes me feel like this could become something more if the title connects with readers. I don’t know that to be true, of course. It’s just conjecture. But I’m hopeful that could be the case, if only to get more from this brilliant trio.
