The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of July 1st

What a weird week of comics, as one writer is generating as many purchased by yours truly – including my book of the week – as every other publisher combined this week. That’s weird, but also par for the course during the pandemic. Let’s look at my buys, recommendations and curiosities from the week of comics, led by an unexpected return.

Book of the Week: Negan Lives #1

There are so many reasons for me to love this. Let’s count the ways.

  1. Skybound is providing this to comic shops for free, ensuring that every sold issue is 100% profit for shops. I love it!
  2. It’s a return to The Walking Dead, the long-running series that ended last year in impressive fashion. I’m very curious what story Robert Kirkman cooked up that made a return worthwhile.
  3. It re-teams Kirkman with Charlie Adlard, a partnership that’s always worth reading.
  4. It’s a story about Negan, a character I…actually care about and quite like? It’s as unexpected for me as it might be for you to read.

Okay, I guess there are just four reasons, but either way, I’m onboard here. I can’t wait to read it, although I suspect these might get cleared out at shops early for speculation reasons. I’ll be showing up at my shop right as they open. You aren’t beating me, speculators!
