The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of October 15th

In a surprisingly quiet week in The Pull, let’s turn our attention to some continuing stories in this look at my buys, highlights, and recommendations from the week of comics.

Comic of the Week: The Lucky Devils #5

Now that this train is back on its tracks after artist Ryan Browne’s major health scare, it’s to remind folks: The Lucky Devils rocks! I only recently read its fourth issue, but it’s only adding depth and intrigue to a spicy concept about the architecture of Hell, the two demons looking to change the game, and the humans they’re using to do just that. It’s funny, thoughtful, insightful, and filled with remarkable work by all involved. I’m a big fan of this book, and if you’ve never gotten on the Browne/Soule Train, The Lucky Devils is a great example of why that pairing works so dang well.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: w0rldtr33 Vol. 3

I’m on the record as saying this is James Tynion’s most underrated comic. Why is that? It just never seems to generate the same conversation other titles have. Which is a shame. It’s a barn burner, and this arc in particular cooks. Tynion’s has a ton of fun with the different timelines, Fernando Blanco crushes throughout, Jordie Bellaire and Aditya Bidikar bring world class coloring and lettering to the book, and we get some serious background on PH34R, the title’s baddest baddie. There’s a lot to like here, and it continues to build into something interesting and unexpected. Big fan of this book!
