The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of October 19th

Another big week is led by one of my favorite minis going right now. Let’s look at that and more in this week’s edition of The Pull, a look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics.

Book of the Week: Defenders Beyond #4

The first run of this duo of mini-series was solid, but largely didn’t live up to my expectations related to its creative team, save for Javier Rodriguez doing Javier Rodriguez things. The second volume still has Javier Rodiguez doing Javier Rodriguez things – and he truly is one of the absolute best in the business – but it has found its groove overall, as Rodriguez and writer Al Ewing are having a blast here, delivering great times for readers as well. Is it “important” or “changing the future of the Marvel universe forever” or something like that? Maybe! There are some crazy things happening here!

But I think it’s a lot more likely that this will just be a fizzy blast of energy throughout, with Ewing and Rodriguez pushing boundaries and blowing minds in the process. I’m happy for this series to just be that. That’s all it needs to be to be excellent.
