The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of October 7th

A big, X of Swords supercharged week is led by…a throwback Image series by two veteran creators? Sure, why not! Let’s look at that and more in this week’s edition of The Pull.

Book of the Week: Adventureman #4

There is something uniquely, purely enjoyable about Adventureman. It’s a throwback adventure story in the best of ways, and it’s clear that Matt Fraction, Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson and everyone else on the book is having a blast making it. That enthusiasm carries over to us, the reader, as each and every issue has been a breezy blast filled with A+ character work, lovely art by the Dodsons, and a continuously building mythology.

Adventureman is the type of comic we need a whole lot more of. A new, original idea, but one that reminds us of so many stories we’ve loved over the years. One foot set in the past, another in the present, and for the purposes of this exercise let’s imagine we have three feet, because there’s another foot set in the future because Fraction and the Dodsons are imagining a bright future of fun built from the foundation of so many stories that preceded it. Plus: what a delightful and diverse cast! This book is just a wonder. I highly recommend it.
