The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of September 14th

It’s one of the easiest decisions for my book of the week of the year. Let’s look at that and more in The Pull.

Book of the Week: Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands

This is easily one of my most anticipated comics of the year. I love Kate Beaton’s work. She’s one of the smartest, most gifted cartoonists ever in my book, and this full-length graphic novel about Beaton’s own life and experience working in the oil fields of Alberta is something I’ve been anticipating since it was first announced. By all accounts, it’s a masterpiece, or everything fans of Beaton expected as soon as it was revealed. I can’t wait to read it.

I will have to, though! I ordered a copy from Drawn & Quarterly a little while back because I couldn’t resist the siren song of that signed bookplate. Whenever it arrives, I am all the way in. Add this to your reading lists, folks, because it’s going to be a doozy.
