It’s kind of a funky week, albeit one with some gems. Let’s explore the lot of them in this week’s edition of The Pull, a look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics.

Comic of the Week: Fire Power #29

This is the penultimate issue of this series, one I’d quietly call one of the most consistently enjoyable…dare I say it…superhero comics on the stands during its run. It’s Robert Kirkman, Chris Samnee, Matt Wilson, and Rus Wooton doing their thing, and doing it as well as they can. The characters are likable, the stakes are high, the emotions are even higher, and the art? Well, the art is incredible. This issue will likely be quite the battle, as the previous issue resolved one of the biggest problems our heroes are facing, but not the biggest. So, uh, much punching and fireballing to ensue. I’m interested to see where they take things, but whatever we’ll get in this issue and the finale, I can be sure of one thing: it’s going to look good.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Saga Vol. 11

Does it seem like the conversation surrounding Saga is subdued these days? Because it definitely seems like that to me. That’s a shame because you know what? Saga? It’s still really good! I suspect the conversation is limited at least in part because of its frequency of release, but BKV, Fiona Staples, and Fonografiks are still bringing their A game each and every issue, while continuing to push and evolve and sometimes grievously injuring characters (or worse!). Saga! It’s still good! Fancy that!

Anyways, this is the latest volume. We’re 11 deep, both in years and volumes, so I suspect you’re in or you’re out at this point. But every new Saga volume is a treasure, and something that should be treated as such.
