The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of October 23rd

This is a banner week, one filled with intriguing debuts, exciting conclusions, excellent continuations, and a top comic in a new format. Let’s look at all that and more in this week’s edition of The Pull.

Comic of the Week: Absolute Wonder Woman #1

Absolute Batman #1 was great, a tremendous read that impresses on every level. I’m saying that to set you up for this: I think Absolute Wonder Woman #1 is meaningfully better. Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, and Jordie Bellaire have created something special here, a comic that you feel as much as read, and one that reinvents Wonder Woman while never losing her heart. It’s easy to believe the hype is too much for some of these Absolute books, but there are a precious few compliments you could give this comic that I wouldn’t immediately agree with. This is the beginning of something special. Get onboard now.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Saga Vol. 1 Digest Edition

Full disclosure: I’m probably not going to buy this comic. I already own every single issue of Saga, so there’s no need. But I am terribly intrigued by this digest edition, and I’m eager to flip through it at my shop just to see how it looks. I hope this does numbers for BKV and Fiona Staples because it’s a great series in a format that fits it well (and that this acts as even more inspiration for publishers to embrace the format). I bet it will.
