The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of October 30th
It’s a Fifth Week, so you know what that means: It’s a super weird week of releases. So, let’s get into that funky slate of comics in this week’s edition of The Pull.
Comic of the Week: The Nice House by the Sea #4
To be honest, I’d give The Nice House by the Sea #4 this slot solely for the fact it’s where the new DC Vertigo logo debuts. That’s the kind of first appearance that means a whole lot to me. Even beyond that, though, The Nice House by the Sea has managed to be exactly what I hoped it would be even if it wasn’t what I expected in the very best of ways, expanding on the larger story in this overall series while pushing the core narrative forward. It’s working, and working well. Perhaps more importantly, though, it has absolutely stunning art by Álvaro Martínez Bueno and Jordie Bellaire. That gives it an incredibly high floor for comic fans, or at least those who quite like great art.
Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: We Called Them Giants
This is an incredibly easy sell. It’s the creative team behind Die — Kieron Gillen, Stephanie Hans, and Clayton Cowles — teaming up for a completely original sounding story that’s everyone’s first attempt at a graphic novel. So, the comic sounds fantastic, the creative team is elite, and you get the added bonus of my curiosity of what a Kieron Gillen written, Stephanie Hans drawn and colored graphic novel even will be like. I can’t wait to find out. It should be glorious.
