The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of December 25th

It’s Christmas Eve so, uh, let’s talk about the comics that are coming out this week, I guess? That’s what we’ll be covering today, as I highlight my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics

Comic of the Week: Metamorpho: The Element Man #1

The simple math here is Al Ewing + Steve Lieber = David is buying this comic. I like the idea that this is meant to be a fun comic and I like the idea of Metamorpho in general. But Ewing + Lieber is all the math I need to support this. It’s a great team being allowed to do their thing to the best of their abilities. That’s all I really want from comics, and something DC’s been doing more and more of late.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Dawnrunner TP

Ram V and Evan Cagle are collectively household names now thanks to their work on The New Gods, and deservedly so. They’re incredible at what they do, and that first issue was a powerhouse for the form of comics and for their collaborative powers. But if you want to see their first longer form collaboration and want to dig into excellent sci-fi, the stylish and smart as hell Dawnrunner is for you. I’m looking forward to this because I have somehow never gotten issue #4 of this series, as my shop was shorted. So, now I am just going to buy the trade and read the whole series in a chunk. I cannot wait, because the opening salvos of Dawnrunner were incredible.
