The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of January 22nd
It’s a nice week of comics, one with some returning favorites and a notable debut — at least for yours truly. So, let’s look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, including one of those returns and that aforementioned debut as the headliners.
Comic of the Week: w0rldtr33 #12
In a week with no obvious headliner, let’s use this space to highlight a returning favorite and maybe the most underrated James Tynion IV comic around. w0rldtr33 is a great series, and with Tynion, artist Fernando Blanco, colorist Jordie Bellaire, and letterer Aditya Bidikar taking us back to tell us the story behind this book’s most visible villain in PH34R, it should be a good one. Welcome back, w0rldtr33!
Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Tokyo Alien Bros. Vol. 1
The reason I’m all about this is because it’s by Keigo Shinzō, the mangaka behind my favorite comic of 2024, Hirayasumi. My belief in his ability to make great comics about anything is absolute, so I am all in on this. But I also love the concept, as it’s about a pair of brothers in Tokyo who aren’t what they appear to be. They’re actually aliens, and this comic is about the two of them trying and seemingly often failing at pretending to be human, and that just sound like a good time. I can’t wait to get this one.
