The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of February 11th

It’s a big week for The Pull, as this look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics is led by two big new releases from some big time favorites.

Comic of the Week: Bleeding Hearts #1

While Deniz Camp is a household name in the comics space these days, the project that really seemed to lead to his rise was his Image Comics series 20th Century Men with artist Stipan Morian. Those two just worked incredibly well together, and now, they’re back together in the first new series of this Vertigo Comics era. It sounds like a winner, too, as it’s a look at society ten years after the zombie takeover was complete and one very special zed word has his world turned upside down…with a functioning heart and a kinship with living, breathing humans? I’m excited for that, but frankly, Camp and Morian’s names alone were all I needed, especially given the Vertigo of it all.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Holiday Junction

Speaking of easy sells, Keigo Shinzo is on the shortlist of my favorite creators going today, and this new release from Denpa collects varying short stories from the mangaka for the first time in English. It’s basically a one-man slice-of-life anthology from maybe the best in the world at that kind of thing, at least in my mind. So, uh, yeah, I’m here for this one.
