Chip Chat Vol. 3: Freedom 55

We’re back with another Chip Chat, as 2026’s monthly interview series with Chip Zdarsky continues onwards.

Sadly, there were no Hollywood Deals or Renovation Disasters to carry our conversation forward. so this Chip Chat turns the conversation inwards, as this episode dives into two different sides of Chip — at least! We’re talking about his art brain and writer brain, and how those sides of him (as well as other ones) impact the way he thinks about writing and comics in general. As per usual, we get into a whole lot of other things, including collaboration with artists, the importance of layouts, business cards, his varied skill set, the recent annual conference for ComicsPRO, the potential end of the current phase of his comics career, and more.

Each Chip Chat will publish on the SKTCHD YouTube as a video series, but only SKTCHD subscribers will get access to the transcribed version of each conversation. So, if you’re like, “no thank you!” to videos — whether they feature Chip and I or not — then I have good news for you: You can read these interviews if you subscribe to SKTCHD, and only if you subscribe!

But without further ado, let’s get to the latest entry in this ongoing series of conversations with one Chip Zdarsky, which is, as per usual, a real delight. I hope you dig it.
