The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of April 8th
It’s a dense and competitive week of comic releases, so let’s get straight to it, as I highlight my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics in another edition of The Pull.

Comic of the Week: Absolute Green Lantern #13
This issue finds the swaggerific Tomar-Re making his presence felt in a major way, and it also finds the talented Eleonora Carlini stepping in for an issue. I dig Carlini’s work, but it always feels like writer Al Ewing’s work is loaded with artistic tourism, as previous fill-in artist Sid Kotian returns for the next two issues after this. It’s alright though because it’s all working, as Absolute Green Lantern continues to be a heck of a read, with the most recent issue being particularly sensational. Can it keep it up? I hope so, and I believe in Ewing, even if his dance partners often change.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Punk’n Heads TP
In a week that’s laden with great options for this slot, I have to give it to a couple faves in Dave Baker and Nicole Goux, whose new Top Shelf graphic novel Punk’n Heads arrives this week. This one feels more straightforward slice of life than usual for the pair, as it’s described as a “raucous and revealing new graphic novel about making music, making mistakes, facing your past, and choosing your future,” but knowing Baker and Goux, this will be laden with enough edge, exceptional character work, and fantastic art to make it feel like its own beast entirely. I’m ready for it, as every release for that duo (either together or as individuals) is well worth a read.
