The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of April 1st

It’s a glorious new week of comics, and that ain’t no joke! So, let’s get to an edition of Comics Disassembled that’s filled with zero pranks, but this look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics is led by something filled with them.

Comic of the Week: MAD About DC #1

I had to make this the pick out of respect to Chip Zdarsky’s painful and tireless efforts to bring this wild, wild release to life. But it’s here now, so rest easy Chip: You’ve given the world something filled with glorious nonsense, and we’re all ready to go on a road of discovery together, one where we finally discover an answer to an eternal question: What would a funny comic written by Scott Snyder really be like? That’s just the tip of the iceberg, as this monster comic is loaded with incredible creators doing gags about DC’s best and brightest (and maybe worst and dimmest as well), as well as larger entries by Sergio Aragonés, Jim Zub & Ramon Perez, and Charles Soule & Ryan Browne. Plus: More Chip Zdarsky than is medically recommended! I can’t wait!

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Inbetweens TP

As you may have determined by listening to this week’s episode of Off Panel, I’m a big fan of cartoonist Faith Erin Hicks’ latest graphic novel, Inbetweens. While I’m always a fan of what she does, this is one of Hicks’ stronger releases, as it’s an involving story about twin sisters pursuing a career in animation by taking a course through a renowned program for those arts, and all the learnings and drama and joy that comes with. It’s built from the cartoonist’s own experiences, something that likely makes it all the richer, and it’s filled with some of her finest visuals she’s crafted yet. It’s a comics great making great comics. What else could we possibly want?
