The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of February 23rd

It’s a big week with a headliner that I’m quite intrigued by, so let’s get straight to it in The Pull, a look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, led by a comic I’m all the way in on.

Book of the Week: Step by Bloody Step #1

Sometimes it’s the team behind a book, which this title certainly has going for it.

Other times its the concept, another notch on the belt of this title.

On a rare occasion it’s about surrounding hype, something this book doesn’t lack.

But when it comes to Step by Bloody Step, the new Si Spurrier, Matias Bergara, and Mat Lopes joint over at Image, being my book of the week, it’s more about a feeling for me: I just have a sense this is going to be an instant classic. A huge part of that are those three aspects above, but even elements like the fact its only four double-length issues suggest to me that there’s a specificity of vision that’s going to result in greatness.

Each aspect of this title feels right, giving it a real magnum opus-type vibe. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong eventually, but I don’t think I will be. No pressure on the team, though. Just some slight expectations to contend with.
