The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of January 22nd

After months of desperately fighting against the tide, I’m almost completely caught up on my single issue read pile. That means it’s the perfect time for new comics! Let’s look at my buys, recommendations and curiosities from the week of comics, led by a relaunch 364 days in the making!

Book of the Week: Guardians of the Galaxy #1

I led this off with a slight dig, as it really is the second Guardians of the Galaxy #1 in 364 days. In some ways, that’s both a bit disappointing and representative of where Marvel is with its larger approach to these stories in 2020. It sounds like the type of thing I’d be out on because of that, and because I didn’t really enjoy the last volume.

But it’s Al Ewing and Juann Cabal, a duo that cures all ills and solves all problems. Both featured in my creators of the year list, and for good reason: they’re incredible. Each is amongst the best at what they do at Marvel, and this pair teaming up on Guardians is about as sure of a shot as you can get for me. Plus, I love the swagger and spice of that cover, as well as Rocket in a suit and Noh-Varr getting in the mix. I’m here for all of it. Let’s go!
