The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of July 16th
In a loaded week of releases, The Pull turns its attention to the neediest of characters, as finally — finally! — Batman leads the way in my Comic of the Week slot.
Wait, what?

Comic of the Week: Batman and Robin: Year One #9
This isn’t a banner release or anything, but as much as a comic starring Batman and Robin can be, I feel like this series is unfortunately being slept on. So, I want to tout it, because it’s great! Chris Samnee, Mark Waid, Mat Lopes, and the rest of the team are creating a gem here, an exceptional series that will be an evergreen seller when it’s done. More importantly, good lord the art. Samnee’s putting up numbers on Dick Grayson alone, with his expressions and character acting being electric throughout. And I never expected to see someone match Matt Wilson’s quality of colors on Samnee, but, uh, Lopes is doing it. You should read this! It’s a ton of fun!

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: 10,000 Ink Stains: A Memoir HC
Jeff Lemire’s always appealing, but there are scales there. In terms of Lemire’s power rankings, his superhero comics are probably last, the genre stuff he writes but doesn’t draw is next (besides Black Hammer), then you get the single-issue comics he writes and draws, then Black Hammer, and finally at the top are the graphic novels he both writes and draws. This release is one of those, but it’s also a new flavor of it, as the focus of this release is Lemire himself and the work he’s done in his career. That’s an interesting new wrinkle! I am intrigued and excited to see what he’s cooked up here.
