The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of July 26th

It’s a heavy week! Let’s get into my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from a robust slate, with it being led by a returning favorite and an…accidentally returning collection!

Comic of the Week: Newburn #9

Chip Zdarsky and Jacob Phillips’ Newburn has been a rock solid…kind of crime book, but also kind of detective book since the jump. I say that with confusion because the title’s lead, Easton Newburn, is a detective…but for criminals? So, that slightly perplexed delivery still stands. Newburn’s a complicated guy! What isn’t complicated is its quality, as Zdarsky and Phillips — two of the best in the business — continue to do their thing as well as anyone does. Add a backup story in there from David Brothers and Nick Dragotta, and you have an even more exciting release. In a big week, this was an easy pick for my comic of the week.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Eight Billion Genies HC

Remember last week when this was my pick for the same slot? And it turned out this didn’t actually come out then, but now? Well, all those things I said remain true. Eight Billion Genies! It’s very good! Read it!
