The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of November 4th

It’s a big week of comics, folks, so let’s get straight into a robust edition of The Pull, as I highlight my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, including a team of heroes gathering, or however it goes.

Comic of the Week: Avengers #1

After being announced in 1976* (* June 2026), the new Avengers series by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto is here, and I’m ready for it. As you may have been able to tell, I was quite fond of Avengers: Armageddon and Zdarsky’s larger library of Marvel works of late, and I think this new Avengers series is going to be a fun one — and not what everyone expects. There seems to be a prevailing theory that this is going to be Chip’s cover song of Brian Michael Bendis’ New Avengers. I suspect that will not be the case, but I guess we’ll find out this week. Consider me on the optimistic side of things, because I’m here for this one.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Bedford Street TP

Sometimes these picks are complicated, but this one was not. I know nothing about Ross Murray’s Bedford Street besides the fact that it’s a) published by Fantagraphics, b) a pick for the New York Public Library’s Best New Comics for Adults list, and c) its cover rules. Truth be told, I knew about the last one before the other two, and that was all that matters. This cover hit me with the same feelings R. Kikuo Johnson’s No One Else did, and that only proved to be one of my favorite comics ever. While I’m skeptical Bedford Street can live up to that hefty standard, the cover makes me excited enough to pick it here and read it when it comes out. That makes it a very good cover indeed.
