The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of September 13th
The high end of releases this week is ultra high. Folks, I am excited. Let’s get to my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, with the whole thing led by a new Marvel series and my most anticipated release of 2023.
Comic of the Week: Avengers Inc. #1
This is an Al Ewing play as much as anything. I’m a big fan of artist Leonard Kirk, cover artist Daniel Acuña is a boss, and I like the idea of a stylish, change of pace Avengers title like this. But Al Ewing is the selling point, as we’ve seen that not having the main title doesn’t slow him down from cooking up something special on an Avengers title. Really looking forward to this one.
Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Roaming GN
From the moment this was announced, this graphic novel from Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki was at the top of my most anticipated projects list for 2023. Not near it. Not on a broader list. At the top. It’s a story of friendship, romance, and spring break amongst young people from the duo behind the much (and deservedly) lauded graphic novel This One Summer, as well as individual creators who have made some of the my favorite comics around (including the absolutely elite SuperMutant Magic Academy, because Jillian Tamaki slays on that book). I will not be buying it on Wednesday, because I pre-ordered a signed edition from Drawn & Quarterly already, but if you want a great comic, I suggest you pick it up.
