The comics you read and the comic experiences you have at different times in your life often form the building blocks of your relationship with the medium. Obviously what you’ll enjoy expands from there, but for readers, those earliest experiences can be enormously influential on you going forward. It’s the same for our favorite creators. … Continued

When I first met Zachary Clemente in person, we were at the downtown Sheraton near the Washington State Convention Center, figuring out interviews we’d be doing at Seattle’s Emerald City Comic Con. I don’t remember what year it was — probably 2013 or 2014 — but it wasn’t the first time Clemente and I had … Continued

While we as readers always expect comics to come out like clockwork, on a monthly schedule as always and not a second more, it isn’t always as simple as that. Sometimes the work takes longer than expected or things come up or, simply put, life happens. You never know what’s waiting for you around that … Continued

To see Ian Bertram’s art is to be wowed by it. If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about. His work in comics — particularly his collaborations with writer Darcy Van Poelgeest at Image in Little Bird and its follow-up Precious Metal — astonishes with the density of its detail and the clarity … Continued

Tiffany Babb is the most passionate advocate for comics criticism I know. Part of that is because it’s her job, to some degree, as she previously was one of the editors at the Eisner Award-winning digital comics criticism magazine PanelxPanel and the deputy editor of comics and pop culture site Popverse. But she truly loves … Continued

The upcoming Image Comics series Exquisite Corpses is about a small town beset by 12 unstoppable killers and the families who secretly run the world play a game to claim control of society through their own sociopathic methods. It’s a tremendous comic, one you can see greatness from now and immense possibilities from in the … Continued

Even though we first heard of Ignition Press — the new venture from eternal comic folks in long-time BOOM! man Filip Sablik, editorial veteran Jamie S. Rich, and creator Jeremy Haun as well as movie producer Eric Gitter — in August of last year, that was before we really knew anything about it. It didn’t … Continued

As a person who has quickly become a believer in all things Keigo Shinzo, digging more into how the mangaka’s projects like Hirayasumi and Tokyo Alien Bros. come to life was at the top of my current priority list for SKTCHD. That was true both because of my aforementioned affinity for his work, but also … Continued

If you use any social media platform, you’ve probably seen Beetle Moses. Whether you’re referring to the cartoonist behind these webcomics — or Harris Fishman, as he’s known as when he isn’t representing his comic — or the strips themselves, Beetle Moses and the particular brand of absurdist, almost observational comedy both are famous for … Continued

It’s hard not to play the comparison game. When you do something — anything, really — you contextualize what you’re doing by looking at others who do that as well. That’s true for everyone. Marketers, podcasters, sandwich artists…even comic creators. We cannot help but look at what others do and think, “How do I compare?” … Continued
