The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of February 28th
I am pleased to report that this is a great week of comics, one I am truly quite excited about. So, let’s get into my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics in the latest edition of The Pull.
Comic of the Week: Avengers: Twilight #3
This is exactly how this title is meant to be, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that there is something about Avengers: Twilight that just feels more substantial than your average Marvel comic right now. Maybe because it’s outside of continuity, it feels like it’s able to tell a story that has a lot more weight and import to it, something that’s really saying something and has the opportunity to feel impactful than your average Big Two release. In its own way, it feels like an event comic, and like when it’s all said and done it could be a rare evergreen title for Marvel, if they want it to be.
That’s just two issues in, but with editor Tom Brevoort hyping it up by showering this issue with Tompliments in his newsletter, it feels like it will only build from here. I’m excited! It’s at the top of my read list this week, and I’m excited to see what the team is cooking up for us here.
Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Lonesome Hunters: The Wolf Child TP
The first volume of Tyler Crook’s Lonesome Hunters was rock solid, a sort of Hellboy Minus Hellboy type story that finds an odd duo dealing with a fantastical situation and highly appealing (for me, not the people in the situation) monsters. Crook’s art is the big draw, as he’s one of the best in the business at what he does, but this is a great concept executed with real thought and heart. I trade waited this volume, and I’m ready to see what I missed when it first hit.
