The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of July 9th

We’re back, and what a week to come back with! So, let’s get into a wonderful slate of comic releases in this edition of The Pull, with it all led by the return of a couple favorites.

Comic of the Week: Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: Rite of Spring #1

Cartoonist Patrick Horvath is an easy buy on anything he does, but the first volume of his horror series Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees was such a doozy it’s even easier when he’s exploring the life of everyone’s favorite Murder Bear. I’ve gone into this one learning as little about it as possible, just because that’s how I approached the first volume and it really worked out for me. I suspect this one will do just the same, if only because Horvath is such a fierce talent.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Flight Vol. 2

If you missed Flight when it was originally being published a couple decades back, Inklore is reprinting this anthology series edited by cartoonist Kazu Kibuishi that starred the superstars of today back then and I could not recommend it more highly. I mean, look at those names in the little highlight circle on the cover. Jen Wang! Ben Hatke! DON FLIPPING HERTZFELDT! Flight was lowkey one of the more impactful efforts of the past couple decades, as it was a showcase for some amazing talent. Now that it’s being reprinted, I hope a whole new generation discovers it because it rules. And wait until you see the fourth volume’s cover! I have that up on my office walls, it’s so spectacular.
