The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of April 28th

It’s a big week of comics, led by a new book from my favorite duo in comics. Let’s get to that and more in this week’s edition of The Pull.

Book of the Week: Friend of the Devil

This is the second Reckless book, but it’s also a standalone graphic novel, a combination I find to be smart and appealing in equal measures. More than that, Friend of the Devil is one important thing: it’s a Brubaker and Phillips joint. For some, taking my Book of the Week spot is a complicated thing, a mix of characters and title and creators and format and all kinds of other aspects that contribute to its appeal. But Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips is really all I need to know for this one.

That said, if you’re the type of person who enjoys stories of hero-ish folks solving problems their own way – your Jack Reachers, your John Wicks, and other assorted J names – you couldn’t ask for a better buy this week than what we’re going to get from Ethan Reckless here. I haven’t read this yet, but that’s deliberate. I know it will be great and I prefer reading in print. I’ll report back soon on just how right I was.
