The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of July 29th

There are Fifth Weeks — which are the weeks when a month has five Wednesdays and publishers scrambled to fill that space, as covered in this feature about the concept — and then there are Fifth Weeks. This one is the most Fifth Weeky Fifth Week that has ever existed, with there being effectively no buys or recommendations from the slate for yours truly, save for some trade waiters. But hey, there is an exciting debut, so let’s cover that in an incredibly abbreviated edition of The Pull.

Comic of the Week: The Patron #1

A comic is much more than a concept, and with creators like Christian Ward and John J. Pearson involved, that will almost certainly be the case for the new Ignition Press series, The Patron. But what a concept! This series is about a patron of the arts who supports rising talents who always seem to die far too young, sending the prices of their art (and his earnings) into the stratosphere. More specifically, it’s about the latest focus for his patronage, and what plays out from there. God I hope this isn’t based on personal experience for Christian and John, but I’m here for it nonetheless!
