The Pull is back! Thankfully! Each week I’ve gone to my local comic book shop for the past month, I’ve had zero clue as to what comics were actually coming out. Now I know, thanks to The Pull. Yes!

Anyways, let’s look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, led by…a Bat…Man?

Book of the Week: Batman #125

Chip Zdarsky writing Batman?

This I gotta see!

Okay, we’ve seen it already. Several times. Chip has been writing a lot of Batman, okay? But this is real deal time. It’s the main book, it’s him and Jorge Jimenez, and it’s Batman facing off against his own version of Doomsday. I am intrigued. I’m not normally a “Batman guy,” even if I do enjoy “Batman” and “quotation marks.” But this feels like a big deal, and one I can get behind, even if I would prefer it to not launch with a $5.99 issue. $5.99 is a lot!

But Chip is even more.

Maybe Juann Cabal is sticking with Fantastic Four after drawing the A.X.E. tie-in? In any case, Stefano Caselli is back on X-Men Red with #5, and German Peralta’s on tap to follow Stefano Landini on Black Panther.

As much of a bummer as it was to lose Roge Antonio, Luca Maresca is proving to be a more than adequate replacement on She-Hulk. I really enjoyed the last issue.

…which is more than I can say for the Dylan Brock sections of Venom. Despite Ram V’s best efforts, I have no interest in that kid or any ersatz Sons of Anarchy shenanigans he might find himself in the midst of. (The cat’s all right, though.) As a result, I’m taking a pass on Carnage. Symbiotes, man – they aren’t for me. Unless Roge Antonio takes over the art duties full-time. Then, I’ll check out a trade.

In a recent newsletter, Gillen mentioned that “Once & Future 30 wraps up the series for now,” so the end (or at least a significant hiatus) is nigh for one of the best books on the stands. It will undoubtedly go out strong.

I’ll give you that! I had never experienced Luca before, but they crushed it on that issue. Very big fan.

In a recent newsletter, Gillen mentioned that “Once & Future 30 wraps up the series for now,” so the end (or at least a significant hiatus) is nigh for one of the best books on the stands. It will undoubtedly go out strong.

I missed this, but that makes sense to me. It certainly feels like it’s nearing its natural conclusion, and it can’t keep going forever. Love that book, though, and I am with you: it will undoubtedly go out strong.
