The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of June 19th

After a long stretch of buy-heavy slates, this week sees things go back towards trade-waiting. There’s a lot of good stuff in there, though, so let’s look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics in The Pull.

Comic of the Week: Helen of Wyndhorn #3

This is the pick for a lot of reasons, but let’s start with arguably the most important one: This is on the shortlist of the very best single-issue comic series today. It is tremendous, and it very much feels like the the exactly perfect sum of all its parts. Bilquis Evely’s art is world-class. Matheus Lopes is an ideal complement with his colors. Clayton Cowles is doing Clayton Cowles things. And Tom King, arguably the most renowned person of the quartet, is doing his strongest work yet here. When it was announced, Helen of Wyndhorn had the potential to be great. It may be even better than that, and that is really saying something.
