The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of March 19th
This is an unreal week, with a plethora of options at all levels of this column. But I have to make choices at the top, and those were surprisingly easy considering the competition. So, let’s get to it, as we look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics in another edition of The Pull.

Comic of the Week: Mouse Guard: Dawn of the Black Axe #1
It has been a minute since we’ve gotten new Mouse Guard — and by that, I mean main thread, for real real Mouse Guard rather than Legends of the Guard, which was solid but not quite the same flavor as its creator David Petersen didn’t guide it in the same way — or more than 12 years if you’re counting at home. But it’s back now with Petersen joined by artist Gabriel Rodriguez on Mouse Guard: Dawn of the Black Axe, a new three issue miniseries that tells the story of the legendary Black Axe. Petersen says he’s working on The Weasel War of 1149, the cartoonist’s next main many story that’s been in the works for some time, but if this is the way they buy time — pairing Petersen with exceptional creators like Rodriguez — then I am all the way onboard. It’ll just be nice to be back on the Mouse Guard train, as it’s been some time since I added to my comics of a rather irregular shape pile.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Zatanna: Bring Down the House HC
I’ve talked about this DC Black Label series many a time before, most recently on the episode of Off Panel with Polygon’s Susana Polo, and it’s for good reason. Zatanna: Bring Down the House rocks. It’s the exact kind of great and inventive and fun and special you’d except from a creative team like Mariko Tamaki, Javier Rodriguez, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. It’s a comic unlike many others, and while its team is elite across the board, Rodriguez is the main event. This is a visual feast, as the artist proves he is just continuing to get better and better. This is a good one, and I bet the actual production of the book is going to be splendid too.
