The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of May 6

After a couple mammoth weeks, things die down a bit in The Pull. But this look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities does have a good one at the top, as a personal hype book steps in as my book of the week.

Book of the Week: Twig #1

This is another “feeling” comic for me. I’m not going to lie: I have no idea what Twig is about! This new Image series from Skottie Young, Kyle Strahm, Jean-Francois Beaulieu, and Nate Piekos is my book of the week, and it appears to be about assorted monsters and a General Grievous variant. You know what? I should find out what this comic is about.

Give me a second.

Okay, that sounds even better! Apparently it’s a five issue mini-series about a character named Twig’s journey to save his world, which is…pretty much exactly what I expected! Strahm’s cover just has “fully realized fantasy story” energy to it, something that feels destined to be an instant classic even if I can’t particularly say why. Like I said, though, I have a feeling about this one, and it’s a feeling of pending greatness. Let’s see if I’m right!
