The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of November 5th

It’s a big week, with some phenomenal debuts and returning favorites. But there can only be one pick for the top spot, and when in doubt, ties go to Erica Henderson. So, let’s dig into my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, as Harley and Ivy lead us off.

Comic of the Week: Harley and Ivy: Life and Crimes #1

As you may have ascertained from this week’s episode of Off Panel, I’m a big fan of Erica Henderson’s work and of her new series Harley and Ivy: Life and Crimes over at DC. Written, drawn, and colored by Henderson and lettered by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (who is really dominating DC these days), Harley and Ivy flashes readers back to the moments between moments in their relationship, taking us from the time they meet to today. Its first issue is a hoot filled with world-class characterization — both art and writing wise — and with substance that matches its style. This is a great comic, and one I suspect that will resonate for readers for a long time when it’s all said and done.
