The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of September 11th

There are so dang many comics this week I’m getting. It kind of feels like that’s always the case, but I guess that’s a good problem to have. Let’s look at my buys, recommendations and curiosities, of which there are many, in this week’s edition of The Pull.

Book of the Week: Trees: Three Fates #1

TREES BACK.

There are a lot of flavors of Warren Ellis out there, and there are multiple flavors of Ellis with Jason Howard as well, but Trees is probably my favorite these days. This contemplative, thoughtful and unique science fiction story is excellent…but it’s also been gone for quite some time. Three years, even! It’s kind of wild, but I’m happy it’s back. At the peak of its powers it was one of the more intriguing and original comics out there, and tonally atypical for Ellis. I’ll be interested to see if their collaboration has any new spice to it after they did Cemetery Beach to it, as that title was certainly much more action packed than this one. Either way, I’m in.

Additional bonus: those incredible covers from Howard. They’re way different than what we get from other comics, as they’re much more design-y – they feel Hickman-ish in a way – than your average one. They stand out and work oh so well. They’re a huge plus for yours truly.
