SKTCHD BOOK 2024 is Now For Sale!

Everyone, the sixth print annual for SKTCHD is now available for order, and it’s spectacular.

It’s SKTCHD BOOK 2024, and after working with an array of folks — but mostly my wife/the book’s designer Amber — for the past couple months, this puppy is ready for you to peruse and get to ordering. As with the past few editions, I’m running orders for the book through Big Cartel, and you’re going to want to get on it. Not to downplay my previous work, but I think it’s the best one yet.

So, what is SKTCHD BOOK 2024, you might be wondering? It’s a print annual collecting five of my favorite pieces from the site and its podcast, Off Panel, as well as a special, book-only Mailbag Q&A, all in one unique artifact. It results in a 120 page book (although we’re still finalizing that) that’s A5 sized and printed on 80 lb uncoated paper and a 110 lb soft-touch laminated cover, collectively forming a striking, perfect bound tome. And what might you find inside this book? Well, this year’s edition includes:

  • A cover by Super Graphic’s Tim Leong!
  • A foreword from writer Kelly Sue DeConnick!
  • My feature on why Daredevil is Marvel’s greatest ongoing of all time, with insight from folks like Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Chris Samnee, Chip Zdarsky, and more!
  • A piece of 2024’s format boom, exploring why publishers were leaning into digests (like DC’s Compact Comics) and compendiums, with perspective from some of the houses that were doing it best!
  • A giant-sized chat with Chip Zdarsky about his ten years in comics and work on comics like Batman, Daredevil, Newburn, and more that originally aired on Off Panel!
  • Creators like Kelly Thompson, Kieron Gillen, and Faith Erin Hicks sharing their perspectives for a piece on how creating comics changes your relationship with reading them!
  • A profile of cartoonist Peach Momoko, exploring her life, career, and art, with perspective from Momoko and a whole bunch of others!
  • A Mailbag Q&A in which all the questions came from comic journalists, critics, and podcasters like Heidi MacDonald, Oliver Sava, Brad and Lisa Gullickson, and more!
  • Introductory pieces by artist Tadd Galusha!

Like with the last couple editions, I’m only printing however many copies are ordered, so if you want a book, this is your time to get one. Copies of the book are now on sale on Big Cartel for $25 each (plus shipping), and they will only be on sale for a limited time with orders closing on Sunday, April 27th at 5 pm Alaska time. Once they’re closed, they’re closed. There will only be one print run. At that point, I’ll print the number of copies ordered on Big Cartel at Mixam, ship them up to Alaska, and then I will distribute them to anyone who ordered a copy. Once orders close, it will be a week or so before they arrive in Alaska, at which point I’ll ship them out, making this a pre-order. We have this down to a science, though, and we’ve gone through the same process the past few years. It should be as minimal a turnaround time as possible.

Just a note on shipping, though, and for once, it’s good news. American customers can still order either media mail (cheaper but slower) or flat rate (faster but more expensive). But delightfully, an option was discovered for International customers that allowed me to drastically reduce prices for those folks. You’ll see what I mean when you get in there. We’re talking less than half as much in some cases. It’s pretty wild!

I’ll include some fun bonuses with the books, including stickers as per usual, modified trading cards, and who knows what else. But the past few years have resulted in an increased number of requests for me to sign the book, so if you’d like that, please let me know in the notes of the order. Happy to do so, but I also don’t want to deface the book unless you so desire. Also, I do have a limited supply of SKTCHD ZINES remaining if you’re interested in adding one to your order if you missed it before.

That’s it! Want a copy of SKTCHD BOOK 2024? Order it on Big Cartel to do just that, but remember, orders close in a month, so make it happen soon! If you have any questions about the book or shipping or anything, email me at david@SKTCHD.com and I will do my best to answer whatever questions you might have. Other than that, thanks for reading, and I hope you check out SKTCHD BOOK 2024!
