The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of November 12th

It’s a monster week in The Pull, so let’s get straight to it, as I look at my buys, recommendations, and curiosities from the week of comics, led by Die, being back!

Comic of the Week: Die: Loaded #1

I’ve read the first issue of this already, and this follow up to Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans’ “goth Jumanji” series over at Image is sure to surprise you. It starts in a familiar place with all the familiar players in Gillen, Hans, letterer Clayton Cowles, and designer Rian Hughes, but where it really gets spicy is when the differences hit. Dive in and enjoy the ride, because this first issue is going to send its cast and readers into unexpected directions. And it’s gorgeous.

Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Friday Deluxe Edition HC

If it’s remotely possible for a comic from Ed Brubaker and Marcos Martin to be underrated, Friday accomplishes it. This is an elite comic, particularly from the visual side of things, as Martin and colorist Muntsa Vicente deliver a tour de force work here. Brubaker cooks with this young detective story that blends an adult take on Nancy Drew(ish) with the supernatural, but it’s elevated to the max by that art. If you haven’t read this yet, this hardcover collects all of Friday into one book, and it’s a real treat. Don’t miss it.
