The Pull: A Look at the Comics Dropping the Week of November 13th
And we’re back in action, even though I’m writing this from the far past (November 4th). But hey, I know what’s coming with comics at the very least, so let’s talk about an exciting slate of comics and the two outside the box picks that lead the week for me in The Pull.
Comic of the Week: Helen of Wyndhorn #6
Is it possible for a coming from Tom King, Bilquis Evely, Matheus Lopes, and Clayton Cowles to be underrated? If Helen of Wyndhorn is any proof, it’s absolutely possible. This might be considered a hot take, but I might pick this as my favorite thing King has ever done, Evely’s a clear contender for my artist of the year, Lopes is a coloring boss, and Cowles is the hardest working (and one of the most gifted) creator in comics. Add that all up and you have an incredible series…pending this finale. Will they stick the landing? That’s the million dollar (or at least $4.99) question! We’ll find out this week.
Trade/Graphic Novel of the Week: Local Man Vol. 3
I’m late — too late, even — to this party, but after finally reading the first volume of Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs’ 90s superhero influenced Image series that’s about a down-on-his-luck cape trying to live life in his small hometown after he was kicked off the world’s greatest superteam, I’m pretty all in on it. It’s a wonderful comic (or at least the first volume was), and something I’m bummed to have started picking up after the creative team decided to put a pin in it for now at the very least. I’ll be picking up both this and the second volume this week, and I’m excited to dig into them both.
